Overview
CarePortal relies on the generosity of our many donors. Some donate to CarePortal’s general operation, and others contribute to specific CarePortal Requests. In this article, we’ll focus on the second type of donation. We’ll explore the nature of a personal CarePortal Fund (referred to as “My CarePortal Fund” in the platform) and how it can be used to meet needs!

What is My CarePortal Fund
When ‘Funding’ a CarePortal Request, you donate to CarePortal. These gifts are tax-deductible donations to a non-profit. However, they differ from general donations in that CarePortal allows you to direct your donation toward a specific CarePortal Request. How? Through CarePortal Funds!
Every CarePortal user has a CarePortal Fund, whether they use it or not. When you ‘Fund’ a Request, the money is first placed in your CarePortal Fund. Then, it’s automatically allocated to the Request of your choosing so that a local church can use it to purchase the requested items. If the money with which you ‘Fund’ a Request isn’t used, the money is returned to your CarePortal Fund for use on a different Request. Donations to CarePortal (including those towards Requests) are non-refundable (see "Donation Terms" when Funding a Request). However, you have control over which Requests your donations support!
In essence, “My CarePortal Fund” acts as a wallet you can use to choose which Requests your donations help. You can make a tax-deductible donation to CarePortal to fill this “wallet” and then use the money from the “wallet” to meet real-time needs.
Where to Find My CarePortal Fund
Every CarePortal user can find their CarePortal Fund balance and transaction history from the “My Fund” page (see screenshot below)! Here are the three steps to find it after signing in to CarePortal:
- Click the orange Role Selector below your name
- Click “Manage My Profile”
- Click “My Fund”
How to Use My CarePortal Fund
Now that we know what “My CarePortal Fund” is and where to find it, let's use it!
The easiest place to add money to your CarePortal Fund is through the “Manage Payment Methods” modal. Follow these steps to access it:
- Click the orange Role Selector below your name
- Click “Manage My Profile”
- Click “Manage Payment Methods”
From the “Manage Payment Methods” modal, you can add a credit card from which to donate and add money to “My CarePortal Fund!”
To contribute to a Request with “My CarePortal Fund,” begin by offering to ‘Fund’ a Request. “My CarePortal Fund” will be listed as a contribution source (see screenshot below)! Choosing “My CarePortal Fund” as the contribution source means the funds will be pulled from it and applied to the need(s) you selected.
If your CarePortal Fund has insufficient funds, you can add money to it as part of the transaction:
Inactive Funds
While the money in users’ CarePortal Funds has already been donated to CarePortal, it won't be used to support children and families in crisis until it is allocated to a Request. If you have money in your CarePortal Fund (through direct donation or a refund from a different Request), we encourage you to explore Requests to put your donation to good use!
We understand that life gets busy, and sometimes CarePortal Funds unintentionally remain unused. One of the ways we ensure donations make a lasting impact is through an “inactive funds” policy! If no inflow or outflow of money has occurred for 180 days, we consider a CarePortal Fund dormant. At that point, CarePortal will remove the money from the CarePortal Fund to be used at our discretion. We send email notifications to the owners of dormant CarePortal Funds after 150 days and 173 days, reminding them of our “inactive fund” policy and encouraging them to use the money in their CarePortal Funds. The 180-day count will reset each time users add or remove from their CarePortal Fund!
Because the money in CarePortal Funds has already been donated to CarePortal, we know its purpose is to serve children and families in crisis - and it’s our responsibility to ensure that intention is honored.
We’re excited by the work God can do through the generosity of caring communities around the world. Together, we can maximize the impact of every donation!
Donation Terms
When you donate to CarePortal, your contribution goes directly toward helping meet specific needs for families in need through CarePortal. Below are the terms with which your donation is managed and allocated:
You are donating to the CarePortal Fund associated with your account to ultimately be used to help fund specific needs of families anonymous to you through CarePortal. You will have the opportunity to choose those needs. If the specific needs that you choose are otherwise met or are no longer available, we have full discretion to present additional needs to you or use your gift to meet other CarePortal needs. Your gift is a non-refundable gift without restriction or condition.
