Overview
The videos below are intended for Church Responders and others who are serving families directly. They are to be used to better equip a response team with more understanding of what help looks like from the perspective of those served. Taking perspective allows caregivers and families to be seen, to be heard, and to be helped in a way that makes sense for them.

Background
Ministry is sometimes intimidating and can feel even more uncomfortable when your personal story is vastly different from those you serve. You may feel like you can’t connect to their experiences, much less with the person. They may look different, and they may live differently. But pain is universal, when you connect with your pain, you can begin to recognize and connect with the pain of others.
It’s safe to assume that Poverty and Pain are included in the stories of families served through CarePortal. While you’ll never know the intricacies of a family 100%, your understanding of the family’s social constraints and how it might impact their daily experience is critical. It sets the stage for you to better understand their needs as well as how the family may be positioned to receive you.
So, what do you need to know? You need to know that the more perspective you have, the better you’re able to serve the person and not the posture.
