March 2023
Church Leaders
- There was an issue where attempting to deactivate a Response Team member resulted in a 500 error when the user was associated with a deactivated Response Team. We've fixed this!
- When a church Engages the Community and becomes the Lead Church, if a community responder responded, the church would auto-commit to those resources because they are the Lead Church. But, in this case, the system wasn't sending the church the agency worker's contact information which would allow them to get those resources to the family in need. We've resolved this issue!
- We've made some updates to the 'Your CarePortal Card balance has been updated!' email. We've cleared up some of the language and formatting to help give church leaders a quick view of recent balance updates for better visibility.
- We at CarePortal are thankful for every individual using the platform to connect to vulnerable children and families with a heart and posture of service. We are committed to you, our users, and we value any feedback that helps the platform improve and leads to more children and families being served with excellence! You make us better, and so we are introducing a new way for users to help shape the future of CarePortal through the opportunity to participate in optional, structured feedback. To read more about what this means, click here and see the gif below for how to opt-in!

February 2023
Church Leaders
- We have enabled auto-release funding for churches! This means that when a church commits and claims or direct commits, instead of that money having to be manually transferred to their CarePortal Card, it will auto-release to their card and be immediately available for use.
Community Champions & Responders
- The updates that more directly impact other perspectives are improving your ability to serve more kids and families!
Agencies
- Some Agency Admins and Agency reps weren’t able to edit their own open requests. We've fixed this!
- When a caseworker closed a request as partially met and selected the number of children actually served, our impact data was not updating to reflect the number of children actually served. We've fixed this!
Network Leaders
- The Agency Worker Protect the Trust agreement was missing the link to the Help Center article for agency training. We got that link added!
- We have enabled auto-release funding for churches! This means that when a church commits and claims or direct commits, instead of that money having to be manually transferred to their CarePortal Card, it will auto-release to their card and be immediately available for use.
- Network Leaders that are also church leaders using the same email address for both roles, were experiencing some issues where the network leader roles caused certain church leader functions to not work correctly such as errors when attempting to activate your team. We've fixed this!
Other Updates
- We have a brand new and improved CarePortal website! The primary goals for this website are to have a clear 'connecting technology' emphasis, be a marketing tool to get new CarePortal users, and be simple! Along with the new website, there is a new marketing map. On this map, you can see impact stats for the network at large and have the ability to see requests recently entered requests as well as some other neat features you should definitely explore here.
- We've updated the design of the CarePortal login page!
-----------------------
January 2023
We are gearing up to launch a brand new careportal.org website very soon! That means that the majority of our developers' focus has been on building that website and getting it ready for you all. Sit tight while our team is working hard and check out the couple of updates we’ve made this month below:
- We’ve updated our economic impact calculations, you can find the specifics on those in this Help Center article.
- We fixed an issue causing pending requests to stay in Agency Reps' dashboards even after the 4-day expiration timeline. Pending requests that haven’t been approved will now expire after 4 days as they are supposed to!

December 2022
Church Leaders
- We’ve standardized the language around Tiers 1, 2, and 3 and made them consistent across the platform and Help Center. They will now be referred to as Tier 1 - Physical, Tier 2 - Relational, and Tier 3 - Familial.
- The Church settings tab now has the ability to delete team leaders! We've also cleaned up some of the editing Church Leaders functionality for a cleaner and simpler experience.
- The Church Responder dashboard 'Requests' tab now defaults to 'My Team Requests' rather than all requests to prevent confusion about why they were seeing requests from across the country when first logging in to prevent thinking they were responding on behalf of their church to requests far away.
- Closed Escalated Church Needs now include church source in the status as well as additional information now included on the View Details page.
- Church Responders from Non-Connecting Churches WITH a CarePortal Card and their CarePortal Fund enabled were able to fund requests and the Church Leaders were receiving 'Recommended Connecting Church' email. We've fixed this!

- We’ve standardized the language around Tiers 1, 2, and 3 and made them consistent across the platform and Help Center. They will now be referred to as Tier 1 - Physical, Tier 2 - Relational, and Tier 3 - Familial.
- We've made Case IDs more easily accessible by adding them to the Request ID column of the Requests table for easy searching and viewing.
- We've lowered 'Children Served’ maximum from 50 to 15 for regular (non multi-family) requests. This will lead to more accurate reporting for children served through regular vs. multi-family requests. Click here for more information on multi-family requests!
- Some agency workers were getting 500 errors when trying to submit a need. We've fixed this!
- We've added a new one-time Protect the Trust agreement for all agency workers to agree to the next (or first time) they submit a request. This agreement is acknowledging the most valuable asset of CarePortal, trust, and some of the ways we partner with you to protect that trust within our network.

- We're always looking for ways to clean up our internal systems and recently found some ways they can work more efficiently together.

November 2022
Church Leaders
- In an effort to detangle our website from our platform interface, we have moved the Open Request page and the Map into the CarePortal dashboard under the 'Requests' tab. You can still access these pages through the website and if you aren't logged in or don't have an account but housing them in the platform provides simplicity and allows us to leverage our website as a marketing tool. We've added a new navigation bar across the top of the 'Requests' tab. If you're a Church Leader, you'll default on this tab to My Team Requests (the view you previously had on the 'Requests' tab) but also have access to the Map and Open Requests. If you're a church responder, we've added the ability (and made it the default) to see your team's requests. You'll also have access to the 'Map' and 'All Requests'.
- Church Leaders now have the ability to activate an individual response team! Previously Church Leaders (such as the Primary Point Person, Connecting Church Leader, Church Needs Leader, or Pastor) were only able to activate all response teams on the 'Activate Your Church' tab inside the 'Leader Actions' tab on a request. We have updated this functionality to allow for either activating all response teams or selecting an individual team to activate.
- We’ve updated any remaining spots in CarePortal where the CarePortal Card was referred to as “Pex Card”. This should help eliminate any confusion!
- We’ve added some additional context to escalated church needs to let other churches and champions who have this need in their dashboard know which church submitted the need.
- We’ve removed some additional, unnecessary badges from the ‘Church Needs’ page for churches that are not approved for church need escalation. These badges weren’t relevant and may have caused unnecessary confusion.
- We removed the ‘Helpful Information’ box from the top of the ‘Church Needs’ page to help keep the pages in CarePortal more consistent. The same training content that was in that box is also located on your 'Training & Resources' tab!

- We updated our calculations for 'Requests Met' and 'Children Served' for better accuracy, now including partially met requests as part of that count. It should have been calculating this way all along, but something got caught in our gears. Everything is straightened out now!
- Direct Commit is now enabled (and forced) for requests when a connecting church is not in range. The Direct Commit checkbox was only available when a request was fundable, which meant when there was no Connecting Church in the radius of a request, or if a Church without a CarePortal Card took the lead on a request, then no churches could fund the request. This prevented churches with a CarePortal Fund and CarePortal Card from Direct Committing to requests, even though there was no reason that they should be stopped from Direct Committing.
- There was an issue in our database causing the Response Team radius to not be the same as the number set in the Response Team settings for some teams. We’ve fixed this issue so now whatever radius is set will be the true functioning radius for that team.
- We've removed the 'Start a Care Circle' sidebar button for IP Admins.

This message encourages them to split the request if possible since requests under $1000 are more likely to get a response. Learn more about writing requests that get responses here.
- We've added new character limits for submitting a request to increase the likelihood of getting a response. Requests now must be greater than 250 characters and less than 1500 characters. Learn more about writing requests that get responses here.
- When clicking the 'submit' button to submit a request, if it was clicked multiple times, it was submitting duplicates of the request. We've fixed this!
Network Leaders

- When a church leader viewed their dashboard from a mobile browser, the 'Yes, I Can Help!' button wasn't working correctly. We gave it a stern talking to and now it works great!
- When a Church enables the 'CarePortal Fund' for their church, responders are able to donate directly to their church's fund so that the Primary Point Person and Team Leaders can use money from the Fund to meet requests. Only these two roles, the PPP and TL, should be able to select the church's Fund. However, for a brief time, Church Responders were able to select their church's CarePortal Fund and use the money on requests.

- Church leaders who have the ability to refund responders after their church commits and claims funds were not able to actually refund. We've fixed this!
- When Canadian church users submitted needs with Canadian postal codes, the system was getting confused and giving an error. Because of this, Canadian churches couldn't escalate church needs. We know Church Entered Needs are super important for Canadian churches and we've fixed this up!
- There for a hot second CarePortal Cards could not be requested, because the Submit button produced an error. You want a CarePortal Card and we want you to have one, so we've fixed this!
- Other church responses were getting included in the 'Commit & Claim' process by Connecting Churches when they shouldn't have been. We've fixed this, so now when one church provides an item and another church commits and claims resources from other responders, the other church's response won't be included in the 'Commit & Claim' process.
Community Champions & Responders
- The Requests tab in your dashboard just got a makeover! Not only does it look better and is more intuitive to use, but it is stronger than ever and functions great!

Agencies
- Sometimes, when a caseworker closed a request, the system read their rating incorrectly. We gave it a stern talking to and now all ratings will reflect the rating that was entered. The Close Request pop-up got a little spa day and now functions better than ever!
- When a request has been approved, an email is sent to the caseworker. When clicking on either link in this email, there was an error. We refreshed those broken links and now they work!
Network Leaders

- When Area Directors or Regional Managers tried to 'view' an ambassador in the 'Ambassadors' tab, they were getting an error. Now, you can view your Ambassadors error-free!
- The 'Utility Bill Assistance' need wasn't working in CarePortal's Demo Environment. We know you may want to add a Utility Bill Assistance need to a request when demonstrating or training on the system, so we've fixed it!
- There was an error that prevented saving when attempting to update anything on the Agency or IP Details page. We've fixed this!
- The 'Churches' table on the 'Ambassador Detail' page wasn't showing all of that Ambassador's churches. We gave the table a stern talking to and now Ambassadors can see all their churches!
- Now, if a church has an active CarePortal Card and wants to be deactivated from CarePortal, they will first need to deactivate their card.

February 2022
Church Leaders
- Church Settings got a facelift! Your Primary Point Person can now add new Team Leaders here and we've added a link to their team's dashboard right on their contact card!
- Church Response Team Settings also got a facelift! We've updated it to match the Church Settings page and be more intuitive to use.
- We've added the Enable Your Church's CarePortal Fund setting to your Settings tab so you can turn that on anytime! Learn more.
- When a non-connecting church enabled their Church's CarePortal Fund, the button to allow donations on that church's public page wasn't showing up. We've fixed this so now anyone can donate to your fund to help serve kids and families in need!
- When someone donates to your Church's CarePortal Fund, as a Church Leader, you probably want to know about it. Good news, now you will!
- For a hot second, non-connecting churches could only use their Church's CarePortal Fund toward requests outside their escalation radius. We've fixed this so now those funds can be used on requests local to your church!
- You may start seeing multi-family requests pop up. These requests will typically be submitted to help facilitate broad collection drives. We've also added the ability for agency workers to add special instructions to multi family requests to include additional helpful information.
- We've had a really ornery escalation radius issue for a while where churches within the escalation radius weren't receiving escalated requests. We've fixed this issue and now escalated requests will escalate to the correct churches!
- When a church responder funded a request and their church was a connecting church but didn't commit and claim the funds within 24 hours, the request should have escalated to other local connecting churches. This wasn't happening, but we fixed it and now it is!
- For some newly activated churches, their response teams were staying in the pending stage even though they should be activated when the church is. Good news, we've fixed this so when a church is activated, their response teams will be too!
- The Verify Participation action was never showing up. We gave it a stern talking to and now you'll find it under the Leader Actions tab when your church helped meet a request that is now closed or if your church took the lead on a request.
- Need and Request text notifications weren't including a link to the request. We've fixed this so now, you'll be able to view requests with ease!
- Anonymous responses to church entered needs were not displaying correctly and the emails that should have been sent along with the response weren't sending. We've fixed this so now they will display properly and everyone that should receive an email will!
- For some strange reason when a Primary Point Person who has agency roles responded to a request, it was coming through as a community response. We've fixed this!
Community Champions & Responders
- Champion Settings got a facelift! Champion Admins can now add new Team Leaders here and we've added a link to their team's dashboard right on their contact card!
- Champion Response Team Settings also got a facelift! We've updated it to be more intuitive to use.
- Champions were receiving an error after clearing a search and then trying to load more requests or click on a badge. We've fixed this issue, woohoo!
- Responders were getting assigned to a random active community when submitting a community response if they weren't already associated with an active community in the system. Responders would obviously want to be assigned to their own local community and not a random one so we've fixed this!
Agencies
- We've made some changes to the outcome questions we ask when a request is closed. We've also added a follow up form that will be sent when a request is closed with a response of "too soon to know" or "can't know" when asked "did meeting this need help speed up...?". This follow-up form will be sent after 45 days for the agency worker to answer this question again. These changes will help us improve the accuracy of our data! Learn more.
- Agency workers can now close partially met requests! When this new reason for closing a request is selected, you'll have the chance to update the impact data for that request. Learn more.
- We've cleaned up the "I Need to Cancel this Request" reason for closing. It now works as it always should have by not requiring any additional information after selecting this reason.
- When a request was submitted that included a "Custom Financial" need, you were likely getting a 500 error. We've fixed that error so now submitting a request with a "Custom Financial" need will be a breeze!
Network Leaders
- Agency Settings now include Multi-Family Requests! This setting is defaulted to off, but is intended to help facilitate broad collection drives that keep impact data separate. We've also added a Special Instructions text box that will appear on requests marked as multi family. This text box will be under the request details so agency workers can add additional helpful information. Learn more.
- We've added our BETA Dashboard to the Reporting tab in your dashboard so you can start testing it out. If you have feedback on it, feel free to drop a comment!
- When certain Demo Environment users were trying to log in to the app, you'd get an error. We've fixed this so now you can use Demo logins for all your Demo-ing needs!
- The Demo Environment request catalog included an item called "Should crib be here?" We said, well yeah, crib should be here! And now it's all fixed up.
- We've made some improvements to our data reporting which means your dashboard should now reflect more accurate data.
- Some RMs were having trouble using the "View" button to view their IPs. We've fixed this!
