Overview
CarePortal relies on the generosity of our many donors. Some donate to CarePortal's general operation, and others contribute to specific CarePortal requests. In this article, we'll focus on the second type of donation — exploring what your personal CarePortal Fund is and how it can be used to meet needs.

What is a Personal CarePortal Fund
When Funding a CarePortal request, you donate to CarePortal. These gifts are tax-deductible donations to a nonprofit. However, they differ from general donations in that CarePortal allows you to direct your donation toward a specific request — through your Personal CarePortal Fund.
Every CarePortal user has a Personal CarePortal Fund, even if they've never used it. When you add money to your Fund, it's held there until you choose to allocate it to a request. At that point, it's applied to the need of your choosing so that a local Church can use it to purchase the requested items. If the money you allocated to a request isn't used, it's returned to your Personal CarePortal Fund for use on a different request. Donations to CarePortal (including those toward requests) are non-refundable — see Donation Terms below. However, you do have control over which request(s) your donations support.
In essence, your Personal CarePortal Fund acts as a wallet you can use to choose which requests your donations help. You can make a tax-deductible donation to fill your Fund, then use it to meet real-time needs in your community.

How to Fund requests using your Personal CarePortal Fund
Now that you know what your Personal CarePortal Fund is and where to find it, let's put it to use.
To Fund a request using your Personal CarePortal Fund, start Funding a request and proceed to the confirmation page. Your Personal CarePortal Fund will be listed as a payment method — selecting it means the donation will be pulled from your Fund and applied to the need(s) you selected.
If your Personal CarePortal Fund has insufficient funds, you can add money to it as part of the transaction.
Inactive funds
While the money in your Personal CarePortal Fund has already been donated to CarePortal, it won't be used to support children and families in crisis until it's allocated to a request. If you have money in your Fund — whether from a direct donation or a refund from a previous request — we encourage you to explore requests and put your donation to good use.
We understand that life gets busy, and sometimes Personal CarePortal Funds unintentionally go unused. One of the ways we ensure donations make a lasting impact is through an inactive funds policy. If no money has moved in or out of your Fund for 180 days, we consider it dormant. At that point, CarePortal will remove the balance to be used at our discretion.
We send email notifications at 150 days and 173 days, reminding you of this policy and encouraging you to put your Fund to use. The 180-day count resets each time you add or remove money from your Personal CarePortal Fund.
Because the money within a Personal CarePortal Fund has already been donated to CarePortal, we know its purpose is to serve children and families in crisis — and it's our responsibility to ensure that intention is honored.
We're excited by the work God can do through the generosity of caring communities around the world. Together, we can make sure every donation goes where it's needed most.
Donation terms
When you donate to CarePortal, your contribution goes directly toward helping meet specific needs for families through CarePortal. Below are the terms under which your donation is managed and allocated:
You are donating to the CarePortal Fund associated with your account to ultimately be used to help Fund specific needs of families anonymous to you through CarePortal. You will have the opportunity to choose those needs. If the specific needs that you choose are otherwise met or are no longer available, we have full discretion to present additional needs to you or use your gift to meet other CarePortal needs. Your gift is a non-refundable gift without restriction or condition.
