Overview
Many CarePortal users wear more than one hat β and that's something to celebrate! You might be a Church Leader who also manages a Response Team, a Network Leader covering multiple regions, or an Agency Worker who occasionally steps in as a Community Responder. Whatever the combination, the role switcher makes it easy to shift perspectives with just a click β so you always have the right tools, see the right requests, and step into the right responsibilities.

Understanding multiple roles
Many CarePortal users carry multiple responsibilities, all tied to a single email address. Three common examples:
- The person who enrolls a new Church or Community Champion is often listed as both the account admin (Primary Point Person or Champion Admin) and a Team Leader for the account's Default Response Team. Each of these roles has different dashboards with different features and permissions that are tailored to that context.
- A Regional Manager may serve multiple separate Regions, each with its own dashboard.
- An Agency Worker can enter and manage their requests while also having the ability to respond to requests as a Community Responder.
Each role gives access to different features and provides information tailored to that context. The role switcher lets you hold multiple roles on one CarePortal account and move between them with ease.
How to switch between roles
- In the upper-right corner of your screen, just below your name, select your current role title.
- From the dropdown, selectΒ
Switch Organizations. - Your current role displays with a checkmark. Select any other role you'd like to switch to.
- The page will refresh, and you'll now see CarePortal from the perspective of your new role.
Tip: If your account only has one role, the Switch Organizations button won't appear when you open the role switcher β that's expected.
What changes when you switch roles
When you switch roles, you may notice changes in:
- Dashboard contentΒ β requests and updates will reflect your current role.
- Available featuresΒ β some roles unlock different tools and settings.
- Request visibilityΒ β you may see more or fewer requests within certain tabs depending on permissions.
- Navigation optionsΒ β menu items and tabs may change to match your role's responsibilities.
Best Practice: Each role in CarePortal serves a specific purpose in the Care-Sharing process. Always confirm you're in the right role before responding to requests β so your actions reflect the right visibility, permissions, and responsibilities.
FAQs
Why don't I see the role switcher? You likely only have one role assigned. In that case, your role is displayed automatically, and there's nothing to switch.
Can I request an additional role? Yes. New roles are granted by your Team Leader or Network Leader. If you think you should have another role, reach out to them directly.
Why don't I see the role I expected? If a role is missing from your account, first check with your leadership about having it added. If they can't resolve it, your Network Leader can help. You're also welcome to contact CarePortal's Support Team at support@careportal.org.
